So, I’m graduating high school this year, and last week my parents sat me down and announced they had a surprise: they wanted to give me a whopping $10,000 towards my college expenses! You can imagine the shock and excitement. I was literally jumping up and down, hugging them, and thanking them like crazy.
But then, they drop a bombshell — there’s an ultimatum. They lay out two specific conditions I have to meet to get the money. First, I’m not allowed to
…attend any college outside our home state.
Second, I must live at home for all four years.
Basically, their “gift” was just a way to control my choices.
The problem? I’ve already been accepted into my dream school across the country, and I’ve been working part-time for two years to help fund it.
So, I told them — as kindly as possible — that I appreciate the offer, but I’m not giving up my dream for their conditions.
Now they’re telling everyone I’m ungrateful and irresponsible.
