I RETURNED HOME AND FOUND A NOTE “TURN ON THE TV… I AM SO SORRY”

My father has always been the rock of our family. He was a loving dad and husband. When I was 14 years old, Dad went on a business trip. A few days later, my world shattered when my mom said that Dad had passed away. Now I am married and have a beautiful son. Recently, we went on vacation and asked my mom to look after the house. But when we returned, unexpectedly, my mom wasn’t home. And this note was lying on the couch. A shiver ran down my spine as I picked up the remote. Turning on the TV, I heard such a dear voice I had long forgotten I couldn’t stop crying when

…the screen flickered, and there he was. My dad.

Older, thinner, but unmistakably him.

“Sweetheart,” he began, his voice trembling, “if you’re watching this, then the truth can’t be hidden any longer. I never died. Your mother and I agreed it was safer for you to believe that than to know the danger I was in. I was forced into hiding because of what I uncovered at work — people who would’ve hurt you to get to me.”

Tears blurred my vision.
“I missed every birthday, every moment,” he said, his own eyes shining. “But I watched from afar, always. And now… I want my family back. I am so sorry.”

The video ended, and silence filled the room. My mom had kept this secret all these years — and now, my father was out there, alive, waiting.

My heart pounded. Do I call the number left at the bottom of the screen? Do I forgive my mother for the biggest lie of my life?

One thing was certain: my world would never be the same again.
